TLDR: Ask for your child to be sent somewhere else if being referred by ER. No one answers the phone and if they do they tell you to call someone else.
My son was placed here after being seen in the ER. The first day there was amazing communication from the staff, especially the nurse Lucy. She told me what to expect and the types of phone calls I would receive while my son was inpatient there. I then spoke with a therapist who explained some med changes that were going to be made and that I would be updated through out the process and that they would discharge him after seeing a positive change with new medications. On the second day my son called me and let me know that they told him he would be discharged on Monday which was 6 days after his admit. That was barely enough time to taper him off his current medication and allow him to begin the new one. I was not called again by the staff until the Friday before discharge. The questions I asked could not be answered by the discharge coordinator and she said that I would be able to speak to the NP at discharge. The day I picked my child up he had scratches on his arm and when I asked him in front of the discharge coordinator where these scratches came from he said another child in the unit. Completely unacceptable. I also was not able to speak with the NP upon discharge only the nurse. And when I asked when my child began his new medication she said she didn’t know. Now it’s the day after and his new medication which should have been taken yesterday required a prior auth from his insurance. His pharmacy says that it needs to be initiated by the facility he came from. When I called the facility to ask if they had initiated it the nurse told me I would have to call the pharmacy and ask them. Then she hung up on me. So I called back and asked to speak to the pharmacy. The man at the pharmacy let me know that he had nothing to do with medication outside the facility and I needed to contact my sons doctor. Basically what I’m saying is no one here knows anything and they will tell you to speak to someone else.

So my young daughters the team who took care of her discharge handler was absolutely garbage. Her behavior was completely unprofessional if she can’t control her self she is gonna not help those kids she’s supposed to be teaching how to act right. Her name was Margret. You cannot throw completely change a psychiatric patients meds half way through the stay and then throw them home days later it needs at least 7 - 10 days to make sure they’re adjusted they didn’t even check to see if the meds they put her on worked with her genesite testing list

The trauma and devastation I endured was completely unbelievable. There is SO much I want to say but I'll just give a couple of things. After mistakingly calling the crisis center for OUTPATIENT advise, they convinced me to come to Valle Vista and seek outpatient care. I was in a very vulnerable state. The crisis center convinced me that Valle Vista has great OUTPATIENT center. I signed forms and they drove me to Valle Vista. Once I arrived, it took a total of 7 to 8 hours to register me. Th...

There was so much that happened but one of the things that I endured was being DENIED medical care for over 5 hours on night shift. Eventually, after advocating for MYSELF, I was transported to St Francis hospital. (There's so much I'm leaving out for legal purposes). After realizing that the crisis center FAILED at providing adequate information, I wanted to sign myself out once I realized I was inpatient in a psych ward. I signed a release form (AMA) after being brought back to Valle Vista from St Francis on Tuesday 4/30 and 2 hours AFTER I SIGNED my RELEASE form, DR ART placed me on a Emergency Detention Order which means, I was placed on a 72 hour hold!! If I leave, I get ARRESTED!!(again, I'm leaving out so much right now). Needless to say, this "72 hour hold" lasted 7 DAYS! All my rights was stripped from me after a Doctor (who I never met until AFTER I signed the AMA) felt the odd need to lock me in a psych ward all because I was misinformed and he never did an assessment on me! I was literally sick and traumatized more then I have ever been in my entire LIFE! Not to mention how UNSAFE I felt. They were always short staffed. At one point, they only had ONE staff member for men side and women side on unit 2/3. Patients was jumping over the nurses desk, banging into doors, attacking staff members. At one point it took 5 staff members to hold down ONE patient for almost 2 hours! And those staff members had to run from other units! The safety of this facility is heart wrenching! I DO NOT RECOMMEND MY LOVED ONES HERE AND IF YOU ARE NEEDING HELP FOR HAVING A TEMPORARY, OVERWHELMING LIFE EXPERIENCE, DON'T COME TO VALLE VISTA. DR ART WILL STRIP YOU OF YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS AND HE WILL NOT LISTEN TO YOU! HE WAS RUDE TO ME WHEN I WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN THAT I ONLY WANTED OUTPATIENT CARE! HE IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND LACK EMPATHY! IM DEVASTATED THAT HE STRIPPED ME FROM MY FAMILY, MY JOB, MY LIVELY HOOD BECAUSE HE COULDN'T DISCERN RATHER I WAS PSYCHOTIC OR JUST NEEDING OUTPATIENT! He placed me on a anti depression med and NEVER EXPLAINED how it would make me feel, side effects, NOTHING! I was horrified of taking this med but I knew if I didn't, he would keep me hostage! My heart goes out to all the patients I left behind. I fear for their mental and physical care in the hands of Valle Vista! Especially in the hands of Dr Art! And MARY BETH, RN (nightshift) is a very egotistical, dramatic, heartless person who really need to find another career. She is very unprofessional and she was the one who denied me medical care when she and other staff members saw my blood pressure was 232/126! I have an aneurysm on my heart! She told me it was my anxiety and that I have to wait until the morning when Dr Art comes in. I was in 3rd stage hypertension distress and she refused to call the Dr! (welp, that didn't help my anxiety!) I had to literally advocate for myself and 4 HOURS LATER, a nurse practitioner FINALLY sent me out to the hospital. I witness her (Mary Beth) yell at patients who simply ask for meds or, soap or a towel. She does not know how to handle stressful situations. She loses it which doesn't help patients who are there for various reasons! She's truly a rude individual and I would not trust her with my dog, let alone my loved ones! Kudos to staff on unit 2/3: Mia, Garrett, Julia (the tech), Tatiana, Denay, Matthew, Jenna, Stacy and the outpatient therapists. Thank you for actually listening! Thank you for your empathy toward patients. Again, I'm leaving ALOT out of this review! Valle Vista is not a safe haven for mental care!

Arie is a stellar therapist. She knows what she’s talking about, sets firm boundaries with her clients and treats us all with the respect we deserve. She encourages us to stay on task but allows us to express ourselves in an appropriate manner. I spoke out of turn and she called me to the side during break and addressed her concerns about me interrupting the group. This has made me more mindful of when I speak and how I speak to the other group members and also to myself.

I went in for interview here for a medical coding position and was discriminated against for being in first trimester of pregnancy. Make sure you don’t tell them you’re pregnant! The manager over coding blatantly told me she couldn’t have me off for 3 weeks after having a child therefore wouldn’t hire me otherwise I would have been a great fit. I believe her name was Pam or Pat. Absolutely appalling, but fortunately I was able to find a good employer who didn’t DISCRIMINATE to hire me.

The discharge experience was ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE, INFURIATING AND IS THE REASON I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS PLACE. There was a lack of drive, communication and honestly a lack of professionalism on multiple people's part. Barbara and Braxton were awesome nurses but THE PHARMACY TEAM STINKS BOTH VALLEY VISTA AND THE OUTSIDE PHARMACY TEAM THEY WORK WITH. GOOD LUCK EVEN REACHING THEM AND GETTING AN ANSWER THAT MAKES SENSE. It took three days for Dr. Dang to explain to me that i would not be gi...

Dang to explain to me that i would not be given one of the meds i was already taking because of an overlap in the classes of medicines HOWEVER, THE MED CHANGES HE MADE DURING MY STAY CAUSED MY INSURANCE TO REQUEST A Prior Authorization FOR THE SAME EXACT REASON. So, after wasting my time, funds and patience, I WILL HAVE BEEN OFF THIS PILL SUDDENLY 4 days with Eskenazi having to step in as of today to write the script/handle the Prior Authorization. Med stabilization was one of the main reason I was here so this was again, ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS
Mia, Kelly, Luke, Roscoe and BB were all amazingly helpful and caring techs. Gina was very well versed in mental health and trauma, providing examples of both healthy and unhealthy thoughts/behaviors. Stacy and Hannah were great recreational therapists as they encourage us to interact with one another during the activities instead of just doing a craft. Tatiyana showed imitative the entire time and helped me calm down at times. She was great at running groups and providing us with ways to make, organize and maintain our goals for the future.
