I tried out their day treatment program intended for mental health and my experience was not positive. Perhaps they are great at addiction treatment, but it doesn't seem like their program for mental health is dialed in. I've never been through addiction treatment, but it seemed like their "mental health" program was just their addiction program with the term "mental health" pasted on top. The two stars is given because the intake person was really great with finding me a spot in the program. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me and you can read the reasons below.
During my first group therapy, one of the patients told the facilitator that she felt very sick to her stomach. The facilitator, rather than showing concern for the patient questioned her about the validity of her complaint. When the patient asked if she could leave, the facilitator told her that she could only leave if she were headed to go to a doctor. As the interaction continued the patient looked more and more uncomfortable. It was left to us, the other patients, to advocate on her behalf and encourage her to honor her own feelings and her own body and decide what is best for her.
My second day there, I was led into the main office by an employee. There was already another patient sitting inside. Also in the room were two gentlemen who were discussing the details of another patient as we entered. Rather than stopping their conversation, they continued to talk about the patient’s medical details and sobriety status in front of myself and another patient. I can only assume this conversation was happening even before I entered the room in full hearing of the other patient. This went on for about 5 minutes before the employee I was with finally told them to stop talking about the patient in front of other patients. It was an absolute violation of HIPAA and there was no reason for it besides carelessness on the part of the two gentlemen as there are private offices steps away that they could have had the conversation in.
The only activities listed on the schedule I was given were classes. I dressed accordingly and then was not thrilled to learn that we would be required to do yoga – something that was all but impossible in my very tight jeans. I did what I could in the class, but then stepped out for a bathroom break. On my way to the bathroom I swung by the office to ask what the field trip activity was for the following day so I could be prepared and dressed appropriately for whatever was happening. The employee seemed to hesitate, as if she didn’t want to give me the information, then shrugged and said she didn’t know. This leads me to believe she either didn't want to tell me (for control reasons?) or that they are so unorganized that they don't have a field trip planned that is less than 24 hours away. She then asked me where I was supposed to be. I indicated the yoga room and she said in a belittling tone, “Well, then get back in there.” I left her office and started walking to the bathroom and she shouted at me “Excuse me, where do you think you’re going?”. I told her that I was going to the bathroom and I wasn’t aware that I was required to ask her permission to do so. While I can appreciate wanting to maintain order, treating full grown adults as children when they are in a voluntary treatment program is dehumanizing.
When I informed the clinic that I wasn't continuing in the program, they asked me why. To which I responded with the incidents I listed above. They never responded.

Turning Point has saved my life! The staff is so supportive and attentive. This is by far the best treatment center I have ever gone through. I highly recommend it for everyone who wants recovery and to maintain it!

A lot of unproductive chit chat and did not learn anything conductive to maintaining sobriety. Poor communication regarding the treatment team.

This location is great. I’ve been to the Sandy location as well. Holladay location has great groups, and therapeutic activities to break up the days. Staff is awesome. I’d never do treatment anywhere else! And I have experienced other treatment centers and was not happy. I would give them 10 stars!

I am learning so many important skills to help me actually achieve long term recovery. It is also helping me make positive changes in my mental health and make a new community of sober people that will support me.
They also provide so much support for continuing care after graduating in the form of groups and community events.

Probably the best dual diagnosis treatment center in Utah. Not a 12 step program but they use a lot of the principles, as well as a cognitive behavioral approach. Helped me get on the right meds. I feel privileged and lucky to have gone here because a rehab that actually knows what the hell they’re doing, with a good doctor and trained, experienced therapists is pretty damn hard to find nowadays!
