This place is the absolute worst place to go if you need help! The staff are Not attentive to the needs of the patients. They are very dismissive and formulate their own personal judgements based on generalization ianstead of making a formulated judgement off of communicating with the patients. How are you supposed to help the patients if you don't ask them questions or listen to their concerns or need. There was only ONE Therapist there who was attentive and helpful. Everyone else is just there to collect a paycheck. It's sad because It's supposed to be a safe space for healing and receiving help. But, the environment is toxic, stressful, and Not very caring at all. They talk down to you and make assumptions instead of simply listening to your needs.
Out of all the staff there was maybe 3 people who actually took the time to actually listen and try to help.

First time sending a family member in need of psychiatric help to a hospital like this and our family was not disappointed.
The nurses in the 2east unit were communicative and cooperative every step of the way. The doctor, however, was impossible to get ahold of. That would be the only downside to this experience.
All in all 5/5 and would definitely recommend Southern Winds to a friend.

I have seen some staff members having three year old like tantrums type of behavior, becoming immediately irritated and defensive when a question is asked to them. It really worries me for the patient or patients mental well being at this institution. Also, the lack of notification to our family, after the patient was admitted involuntary to this facility. It gives you the feeling that your love one has disappeared from the face of earth and the family don't know what happened to their love...

It gives you the feeling that your love one has disappeared from the face of earth and the family don't know what happened to their loved one. On the other hand, I have to mention there is some employees and supervisors doing a great job. As the situation progresses and I learn more from this place, I will be adding more to my review.

Once I told him no, two days later I get a call from said alf saying they have intake forms for my father.. i refused and tried to call the case worker.. full voicemail..he had given me his cell phone.. he pushed and pushed for his alf again and once I said a final no, he got very short and at 5pm, 2 hours later (even though I asked them to wait til the morning to transport him) decided to discharge my father an hour away to his alf. I asked him specifically not to discharge him in the evening as it would upset the routine for the staff at dads alf, upset my father's routine and make him agitated. He didnt care and discharged him anyway.
The people do not care about the patients, only the kick backs they get from alfs receiving their patients!
An hour after my post, I get a call from Ernesto confronting me about my post and stating that I was told that my father was being transported and asking what he did wrong.. time beyter spent taking care of the patients. Thankfully dad is at hos home alf.

I don't know how this place has more than 2 stars.... this is going to be long just because I'm trying to really stress to PLEASE, only get into the medical/psychological field if you CARE about what you are doing, care for others, have not completely desensitized yourself,
and like to help.. for the love of God, -re evaluate this place and it's workers..- there were veryy few actual kind people working here but most seem to have desensitized themselves so much to the point where a group of employees (knowing these medications people are put on have side effects) they let an older woman fall flat on the floor face down cry for help.. they just looked at me while I was on the phone as if they didn't know what to do with her *sigh* and just started talking to eachother, not checking on her... I had to turn around, I started crying... I wanted to help her, and so many other patients that were put down while admitted here to get help from caring mental health specialists. I got people to get up and dance after being there for just 2 days🙏 One of the nurses made a mistake and didn't give me my seizure medications at night so I was awake all night feeling BAD, having seizure symptoms (auras).. they would've never even known.. Scary. But in the morning I told the Psychiatrist very politely that I couldn't sleep because of that, and I felt like she immediately got offended or something and told me no, no, look that's called anxiety. Are you sure it wasn't the anxiety keeping you up?.. I've studied Psychology in college for almost a year until I started having SEIZURES for 6 YEARS... I am aware of what anxiety is and how anxiety vs. Seizure auras feel.. I was a year seizure free because of that medication and they almost caused one then tried blaming me.. She told me I'd be getting the right medication that night and "let's see", well I slept, ate, and danced the next day. The woman dancing told me "youre hired" lol, I at least felt good making others in there happy when there really was barely any help, just seems like people with a 'toughen up' mentality. I sympathize with the people working here, they seem like they need a stay as well to see what actual help is😥 I wish I could volunteer just to help honestly but with the people that work there.. I strongly recommend replacing a lot of employees before it's in trouble. Hope everyone has a Beautiful day, stay healthy &keep your head up
