My ward has been there for four months. He is Autistic, IDD, ADHD with a history of severe trauma. I am impressed with SMTC. The staff is very caring and attentive. The therapist has been so good for him and has helped him with healing. He is learning behaviors that we put up with because the rages that followed weren’t worth the behavior correction — but now he is saying “please” and “thank you” and chewing with his mouth closed! (Observations from a visit with him. Small things, yes, but unexpected.) The school there has picked up where our school was at and he is doing great. For other parents fearful of sending their child there, I will tell you this has been our best decision for him. He has a few more months to go, but the path seems brighter than what we were facing before SMTC.

Our son began his journey at San Marcos treatment center in August. We had hit an all new level of desperation to get help for him. We have been so incredibly blessed by smt!!! We see our beautiful boy making progress, we see the light in his eyes again. Everyone there has been amazing to him and to our family. His therapist is absolutely amazing! The nurses, the staff, everyone has made this the best for our son and family. I see so many bad reviews here but we have had an absolutely ama...

P.s. if you have a loved one there, take time to do the nature trail when visiting, it's so peaceful ♡

I was a resident here about 12 years ago. I had some females from the gang unit try to chase me down in the school yard and the staff allowed them to come into the classroom I was in. That had a bunch of younger kids in order to try and fight me because these girls said they knew me but I had never met them in my life. If you value your child's overall health don't bring them here.

First and foremost, do NOT ever send your kids here! I was former patient and was admitted around the year of 2012. Im 26 now, and that place still haunts me. The amount of medication that I was forced to take daily is absolutely wild seeing as I never had a chance to speak with an actual psychiatrist, the dr just read my file and submit the prescription and I was forced to take it. 3 different incidents, girls would steal my stuff and try to fight me. ...

The amount of medication that I was forced to take daily is absolutely wild seeing as I never had a chance to speak with an actual psychiatrist, the dr just read my file and submit the prescription and I was forced to take it. 3 different incidents, girls would steal my stuff and try to fight me. When I brought this to the staff I would get out on a “freeze” and I had sit and be quiet while everyone continued to socialize. The dorm facilities were so dirty and unsanitary that some of the girls would get staph infections.
Moving on to the “therapy session”…. I quickly realized this program was a fake it till you make it… so I was very open in group therapy, I was very careful to be very positive when I communicating and participating….to later make my routine phone call to my dad and be told that the facility said I was refusing to participate and I wasn’t making any progress.
It was one night that I got jumped by two girls and I called my dad crying…I told him what had happened and he came the next day to come me. BCBS was willing to cover the cost even though I didn’t complete the program because of the incidents happening.
To be going through a hard time… to be drugged out of your mind on medication you shouldn’t be taking….to have to look over your shoulder so you don’t get jumped…to have your stuff stolen… to have facility manipulate your parents to force you to stay longer so the facility can get a insurance payout is sickening.
How this place hasn’t been investigated is beyond me…..
I will never forget my experience even after 12 years and 2 girls of my own.

My daughter was court ordered to go here from June 2023- March 2024.
I won’t go into all the details of her stay. However the main issues with this center were:
1. Lack of supervision/ under staffing. My daughter was on Clearview Down and then transferred to Clearview up after being jumped by 2 females. Then when she went to Clearview Up she was jumped by 4 females. All because staff either didn’t take threats seriously (can’t do anything until something actually happens) or there was lack ...

All because staff either didn’t take threats seriously (can’t do anything until something actually happens) or there was lack of supervision and understaffing. By understaffing I’m talking about the ratio is supposed 1 staff per 5 kids. However there were many times my daughter would call me and tell me there were 1 or 2 staff members for a unit of 15 girls. Clearview Up was closed down 2x in the short period my daughter was there and the girls were broken up into different units to spend nights because there wasn’t any staff on CV Up to look after these girls. There were also times where girls would be left unsupervised in areas with no cameras and fights would occur or girls would be doing inappropriate acts with each other, and if the cameras didn’t catch it then it didn’t happen in managements eyes. My daughter and several other girls were able to get “supplies” (ink and 2 needles) to give themselves “stick and poke” tattoos. Apparently a girl brought the supplies in after her pass to go home to see her family, however they ended up blaming a staff member for supposedly giving the girl the supplies.
2.The food or lack there of…. The cafeteria was being “remodeled” the whole time my daughter was there and they were using a “mobile kitchen” that was small and only fit about 3 cooks. They would run out of food and have to find other substitutes that weren’t on the “menu” to feed the kids. The food was often moldy or undercooked. They claim to give the kids “portion controlled plates” but we are talking like 2 small chicken strips to feed a hungry teenager for dinner. And Lord forbid if one child didn’t want their food and tried to give it to another child, or if you accepted food from someone else you would be punished and put on “preferred activity rest” or some other consequence. They would rather you waste the food and toss it in the trash. My daughter lost over 60 lbs being there. While she was happy about the weight loss because her medications before going to the center caused her a ton of weight gain, some of that was because of the walking they did from building to building but some of it was because she wasn’t eating much. Now that she’s home, she is more hard on herself and self conscious about her weight because she is able to eat and worries constantly about gaining weight and shaming herself if she see’s her weight fluctuating. (Staff members liked to “fat shame” kids)
I could go on… but I will stop here. This could a better place IF the staff was trained better and they could keep staff members. Staff was constantly quitting. The lack of supervision could legally open a can of worms. Also, they need to figure their food program out. Stop admitting children if you can’t provide enough quality food to feed them all.

San Marcos was able to get our son in for treatment in August 2023. After several ups and downs, our son is back home and we are seeing a dramatic difference in him. The staff at this facility is remarkable. They are very open, communicate frequently, and listen to the parents when they voice their concerns and requests. We are very pleased with the attention and care our son received from this facility.

Honestly smtc has been the place that has helped me the most. I was there for 3 months and just recently got out , but I am doing so much better. The staff on spring 2 need a raise though cause they be having to deal with too much. It felt really nice to have all of the support from staff that I had. Thank you to all of the staff on spring 2 for taking time to understand each individual persons needs. That food was terrible though. I found plastic in my grilled cheese and they always ran out ...

I was here in 2001-2004. New Heights Boys (building in front of the therapists office on the former football field) was my dorm. I was lucky to have a good therapist, but the rest of the place was hell on earth. It was a necessary evil to go here as Washington State had no mental health treatment centers that slapped sense into would-be young delinquents. I remember all the codes on the walkie-talkies, the 'Structures" (punishments if you stepped out of line) Half of the staff and inmate nam...

I remember all the codes on the walkie-talkies, the 'Structures" (punishments if you stepped out of line) Half of the staff and inmate names which I won't repeat here as that is breach of confidential information. I wonder how much has changed in the past 20 years as I write this. Are point cards still used (Purple, Yellow, Cherry, Blue, Orange, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3) is it still hell like it was 20 years ago, when the owners of Bert P Brown School passed the torch to CiDu in late 03?
