Omega completely saved my life. I did the full continuum - inpatient for 60 days, 2 additional weeks of PHP, and 2 months of IOP. Here is my experience:
When I got to Omega I had been homeless and in and out of jail for the past 5 years. I was an IV drug user. I had no relationship with my family. I felt I had nothing to live for.
I did not know anyone in Austin. I hadn’t had real friends in years, just other sick people I used drugs with. There is a beautiful bond among the community of people I was in treatment with in August - October of 2022. Each of those women have a special place in my heart. On Christmas and thanksgiving of 2023, we all exchanged texts of love and gratitude for one another. I just had a long phone call with my roommate from Omega last week, and it’s 2024. My best friends from Omega came to support me when I picked up my chip celebrating 1 year of sobriety. Because of Omega I will be celebrating 18 months on Valentine’s Day of this year.
I have mental health issues as well. Omega helped me address that in a way no treatment center or clinical staff ever has before. My therapist was extremely intelligent and passionate. And what that looked like was her holding me accountable for excuses and my manipulation tactics. That was difficult for me at first. I had to change my behaviors and my ways of thinking. That’s always going to be uncomfortable, it is not supposed to be easy. If I had gotten my way at every turn while I was in treatment, I wouldn’t have gotten any better. There were a couple times I tried to leave because I was upset. The staff was firm and gentle in guiding me through my resistance, and in doing so, they probably saved my life. Their clinical program is the strongest I’ve ever seen. I still use my DBT skills to this day. I truly felt Omega had my best interests at heart the entire time I was there. Here are the facts: I am over 17 months sober today. I am employed today at a great job. I got my drivers license. I bought myself a car. I have a sponsor and several sponsees. I have service commitments in my 12 step program. My parents trust me again. I am in a loving relationship. My BPD is in full remission. I am part of an amazing fellowship of women. I’ve developed a relationship with God.
I never would have been able to do any of this without Omega. I can’t say enough positive things about this treatment experience.
Last thing I’ll say is that Chandler and Madison are AMAZING at what they do. Huge thank you to Dr K and everyone at Omega for giving me a life beyond my wildest dreams!

I spent 6 weeks at Omega recovery and completed the program, if I’m going to be completely honest I would not recommend this place for people who suffer from mental health or addiction. I truly wanted to leave after a couple days but I said I’d wait to see if it improved then I wanted to leave after my second week but on account of parents I was pushed to stay. It is a very disorganized and a unfulfilling treatment that lacks unity amongst staff and professionalism. Being there 6 weeks there was a lot of advocating for myself on the little things you would expect out of treatment. In my time being there I saw my therapist a maximum of 4 times and met with my case manager 2 times. The staff has little to basic understanding of functionality on a daily basis, I felt more worried about being discriminated by the staff rather than receiving treatment. It took until the end of my 3rd week to sign my treatment plan and begin to start seeing my therapist more, on account of having to complain to meet these expectations. My fellow clients were more accountable to helping me than the staff, they had a better understanding and relationship of what I was going through. There is very little individualized help and more reliance on group sessions in means of treatment. I truly had no idea what I was doing or what I was working towards in means of treatment, and so I thought they would provide a better path of understanding in which they did not, so I was very reliant on myself to advocate for my treatment needs. I have been to treatment 3 times including Omega and this was the least professional and disorganized place I have attended. On a daily basis I was told “everything was subject to change” which is very agonizing for an individual with bipolar disorder who tries to live with a structured schedule (understanding life happens and things change) but in a contained environment without outside distractions you would think it be much easier to stay on consistent routine, but that standard was not met here. What I was told on the phone and provided on the website was not what I received while in treatment. I thought I would receive more help for my specific disorder of bipolar but it was very broad information and the same information on a weekly basis, I felt I was in school and had to prove my worth rather than receiving help. I felt uncomfortable and under constant judgement on a daily basis. Also the house I was staying at the foundation was falling apart, there were multiple cracks in the wall, an unfinished bathroom with tiles falling, and clear that the foundation was unleveled, and also multiple cockroaches. This is not a place that’s going to change your life or save you if you are at rock bottom. In my time being there me and multiple other clients had more complaints than assurances. There was some staff that were good and some that were bad. I really enjoyed the psychiatrist there although my meeting time with her was limited she had great knowledge. The therapists were terrible besides the lead therapist. I enjoyed my case manager when I actually got to see her, (2 times), and a majority if not all the Techs were good. But sadly most of the staff there are as new as you are to sobriety not many of them have longevity of sobriety under their belt and most are still in recovery as well. At the end my dad even received a phone call apology from here, proving their acknowledgment of the situation but still lack to change and improve. I even threatened to sue while I was in there (I wasn’t going to actually) just to see how they reacted, and their whole sense care changed upon me once I pushed back. I believe they have awareness of the situation but don’t or choose not to change for whatever reason that may be, it took threatening legal action to receive some sort of change. Which I don’t want to do but it was my last resort to receiving treatment I needed.
I would not recommend this place in form of receiving treatment, due to the inconsistency, minimal awareness of you as the patient and lack of care overall.

My daughter’s experience at Omega was hard, but with therapy, group therapy , real life skills, and a great Phychitrist she made it through.
There are so many people there I’d like to thank, Wesley, Jamie, Dr. Regie all the techs. Everyone kept in touch with us, her family. They were so kind.
No recovery organization is perfect, things change daily and they are doing a great job to help your loved ones. They actually care for you loved one.

Hello I'm Julian Stanfield! (Also known as JuJu at Omega)
I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar 1 back in 2018 and my journey since then with this diagnosis has been far from easy. My outlet to cope with these intense emotional fluctuations was gaming and internet addictions in general. An addiction that led to others such as alcohol dependency, nicotine use, as well as other substances.
I have been to multiple recovery centers throughout the years from Partial Hospitalizations on my own accord to full on hospitalizations against my will. I would say I have seen most walks of life from different recovery centers. The life-changing brilliance of some, and the terrible traumatizing experiences from others. I have learned a great deal from all: what works, and what doesn't.
Omega Recovery in Austin, Texas was the first place that had specialized recovery with internet and gaming addictions, an ugly demon that's held me captive for as long as I can remember. I will put below a list of pros and cons of this facility ranging from the staff, to environment, to program content and management, and the owner's participation in his facility: Dr. Kardaras.
Pros:
-The tech's at the men's house at Omega were phenomenal!! Specifically Noah (who was also previously diagnosed with Bipolar 1 --> Incredibly relatable) and the lead tech Alex did an impeccable job aiding the recovery of the clients in a safe environment.
-Program content was phenomenal and practical coping skills for daily use
- Dr.K is incredibly knowledgeable about recovery in general as well as the ins and outs of gaming/internet addictions. I learned a ton from his Zoom teachings as well as his occasional in-person groups he held at Omega in Austin for the Tech groups.
-The environment there is PHENOMENAL! I loved how I had the opportunity to live with new friends in recovery from the same addictions and diagnosis. Definitely one of my favorite aspects of Omega Recovery.
- After each tough day at Clinical (Where we'd go to learn and talk about topics such as Emotional Regulation skills and trauma work --> all very taxing mentally and emotionally), we would go to what was called ABC. Basically a daily cooloff experience: Kayaking, going to parks, yoga, hiking, rivers, etc. HUGE!
Cons:
-Medication management was HORRENDOUS. Imagine going to Omega already on certain meds, like most of us were. You're going to this recovery center to work on past trauma or whatever other addictions, then not getting meds the FIRST 2 WEEKS THERE! Not only are you trying to recover from your addiction or whatever you're there for, but you're now forced to do so with unnecessary withdrawals from this... I heard this from TOO MANY people while I was there. Disgusting.
-I attribute this to lack of communication between staff throughout the organization. The lead tech Alex was doing everything he could I know he was... he had hardly any say in MOST of the decisions that were made. I find this ironic because he, along with the other techs at the men's house, knew our concerns and living conditions better than anyone.
-Men's house is old and very run down. Buy a new one!!!
-Pro and Con: I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to have a 1 on 1 sit-down for a short period of time to ask Dr.K a specific question to help with my own recovery which he answered eloquently. I also had the opportunity to express the concerns with him that I had regarding the men's house shortly after that.
Including: no hot water in showers for 2 weeks for previous clients, smells of gas in the kitchen for over 2 weeks with no active intent on fixing this incredibly dangerous situation, the medication situation like I had previously mentioned, overflowing toilets, etc. All with consistent complaints from everyone about these situations with 0 action responses to them. When I brought up these concerns to Dr.K his first response was to scoff at me and say they had been handled... which they hadn't been.
This was my experience with Omega Recover of Austin, Texas for 3 months from May, 2022 to July, 2022.

The staff that was in charge of us at the p.h.p. house was great. The BHT staff that was in charge of us at the p.h.p. house was great. Four people, in particular, Alex, Kaylee, Taylor, and Mariah, truly care about their job and want to be there to help us. That made such a difference in my stay. Wesley, the operations director, is an incredible person and makes sure that anything that needs to be done is taken care of promptly. Along with just listening when I needed to talk to someone. I could go on and on about how my stay at Omega was great. I don’t know how to show how truly grateful I am for Omega and the people there. If you or a loved one wants or needs treatment for substance abuse, mental health, or tech addiction, Omega is where it’s at!!
