Warning: Consider Carefully Before Choosing Meridell
I worked at Meridell Achievement Center, and I have some serious concerns about the company that I think everyone should know.
One big issue is the hiring process. The training for staff members is not enough to handle the challenges they face. I worked in the Falcons unit, and I felt thrown in without proper preparation. Being assigned there based on my size felt arbitrary.

One big issue is the hiring process. The training for staff members is not enough to handle the challenges they face. I worked in the Falcons unit, and I felt thrown in without proper preparation. Being assigned there based on my size felt arbitrary.
The Falcons unit had major problems – I was even attacked on my first day. The mix of 13 to 18-year-olds with different issues made it tough to provide effective treatment. There were safety issues, like an 6’5” 18-year-old with substance withdrawal expressing violent behavior accompanied by a lack of staffing to support his needs.
I've seen negative reviews from former patients, and I can confirm their concerns about safety. Even as a staff member, I often felt unsafe.
Units that lacked such a large age gap, and focused more on controlled behaviors, had a calmer atmosphere. If you're thinking about Meridell for your child, be careful about the assigned unit. Avoid units like Falcons, Eagles, or Jewels(ravens)
As a worker, it's tough. No lunches or breaks, even on long shifts. Management is always asking you to work extra shifts.
Teamwork is extra important in this place and makes things easier, if your team even shows up. Meridell is consistently understaffed.
If you're considering a job at Meridell, think twice. Units like Falcons, Eagles, or Jewels(ravens) are typically chaotic and unsafe for everyone. You might regret working there.

We've trusted Meridell with our child twice now. We as parents as well as our kiddo have learned a lot through our time dealing with the issues that lead us to Meridell. We've trusted Meridell with our child twice now. We as parents as well as our kiddo have learned a lot through our time dealing with the issues that lead us to Meridell. Frustration in dealing with the medical system and lack of support before our time here had us invested in finding the best facility we could. We found it difficult at first evaluating facilities and doing what's right for your child especially with mixed reviews on just about every facility dealing with mental healthcare. We were recommended to Meridell by a close friend who worked as pediatric practitioner based on her personal experience and I'm very thankful we took her advice. Early on at Meridelly we felt like we finally had a team that gave us the support that we needed and after acclimating to the program we had continual progress (of course we dealt with a few speed bumps along the way). Our doctor and therapist at Meridell were amazing. They were open to our input and gave us the best tools and presented options in our child's treatment. I never felt like my child was unsafe and we had no complaints related to treatment or environment from our child. We highly recommend Meridell Achievement Center

We had no knowledge about Meridell prior to 2022 and 2023, but we can happily describe it as a truly wonderful blessing for families. Without question, the Meridell staff and employees love and serve the children in their care. Not just my family, but everyone we have spoken to about Meridell, or who are involved in the services obtained there, cannot say enough about how wonderful Meridell has been for them and their families, far exceeding their expectations. Beware! My autistic son was there for behavioral issues and during a restraint a staff member got hurt and now my son is facing criminal charges. We were not notified of these charges until 2 months later when he was picked up on a warrant. I am not excusing his behavior nor did he do it on purpose but it's to be expected that kids get out of hand and need to be restrained in a mental health facility and staff should be properly trained to protect themselves and know how to successfully re...

i was at meridell for about 5 months (sept 2023-jan 2024). it sure was…something. i got put on the unit ranch house, and i enjoyed it at first because there were barely any problems. after a few peers left, we started to get more new people, which was hectic. a lot of the new peers had more problems and needed more help than a lot of other peers needed, but the staff only saw it as trouble. i understand why they handed out refocus to a lot of peers, but it didnt work well. the peers who were ...

i was at meridell for about 5 months (sept 2023-jan 2024). it sure was…something. i got put on the unit ranch house, and i enjoyed it at first because there were barely any problems. after a few peers left, we started to get more new people, which was hectic. a lot of the new peers had more problems and needed more help than a lot of other peers needed, but the staff only saw it as trouble. i understand why they handed out refocus to a lot of peers, but it didnt work well. the peers who were on refocus would lash out from time to time, making the unit seem like a dangerous area. The problems didnt die down when we got more new peers though, they only got worse. a lot of peers hated one specific person, who i was roommates with for a while. that person was problematic, but she had a lot going on in her life (which she told me about). i understood her point of view on things, but the other peers didnt care to acknowledge. majority of the peers went out of their way to make rumors that my roommate was a sexual assaulter.. she really wasnt, she just had a lot of problems and didnt communicate well. some other peers made the decision of putting feces in her hygiene bucket. she couldve gotten a deadly disease if nobody found out. the staff thought that it was a good idea to give refocus to everyone besides me, my roommate, and another peer. that entire incident ended with a chaotic code red that lasted for about 2 hours. personally, my treatment was pretty decent. i learned a lot, and i got level 3. the atmosphere was very negative though. people would constantly make rumors about others. i even got punched in the neck during my stay there. a 17 year old preyed on me (im 13), and i didnt think much of it because im naive, but that 17 year old (who was also level 3), played with my feelings and told me that they only used me to get over someone else. they also started rumors, making them seem like the victim. the staff didnt do anything about it. the only help i got within that situation was whenever i was bawling my eyes out. i also got very depressed, which awoken my urges to please others, so i did something and i got level dropped. at the end of my stay, i got level 3 again. majority of things sucked, but my last day was amazing. people were actually sad that i was leaving, and majority of people were supportive of my success. i miss a lot of my peers and i will forever be thankful for those some.
im gonna add this.. there were also peers who were very violent. one time me, a peer that had a crush on me, and another peer who i was close to, uh we were sitting down and talking about my books, and another peer sat down next to us and said “hi”, and for no reason, another peer pushed that persons head down onto the ground and started beating her up until she was all bloody. i have never seen a fight or got punched until i got to meridell. it was traumatizing. i hid behind the peer who liked me, and i sat there and watched. i couldnt close my eyes, i didnt know what to do. the staff gathered majority of us up and we went outside. the girl who got beat, she came back to join the unit and her face was all bloody. i felt terrible. the peer who beat that other peer got switched to another unit, because a lot of peers were talking about how unsafe they felt.
i do not recommend meridell if you dont want to be traumatized, but i also recommend it because i got a lot of help.
the staff were also very degrading. if one person got in trouble or got a refocus, the staff would have a long announcement about how the current group is worse than the last. the core staff on ranch house did listen to the patients though (depending on what the patient was talking about). i would say that the program helped me a lot, but the other patients added so much pressure onto my shoulders. i felt bad talking to staff about how i felt because i didnt want to be told to focus on myself, because i constantly already did FOS. so many people were so rude and i constantly felt like an outcast, but i tried to embrace that. i did everything that i could.

My family has had nothing but a great experience with Meridell. This place has been so understanding and had a great therapeutic program. The campus is so calm and beautiful. My sister’s therapist worked very well with us all. Thank you Meridell for helping my family.
