I just spent 11 days in the Patriot unit of Lakeside for alcohol detox. They literally saved my life with the treatment. The staff were really nice and took care of us. I know that other units in the facility are kinda sketchy and some times down right Scary but the unit I was in was only for military veterans so it was a lot more laid back. We got plenty of rest, meds, and decent food. We were also allowed to smoke 5 times a day and got plenty of outdoor time. Only negative thing was we were woken up at 5am and did not even go to breakfast until 8:45. Other than that it was a great unit to detox from. If you are a Veteran that requires treatment I would highly recommend asking to be sent to the Patriot unit at this hospital. I also wanna thank my councilor Josh on the Patroit floor for being super professional and showing empathy towards not only myself, but the other patients in my unit. He made us feel very comfortable during a time when most of us were having a rough time during our detox. I can tell he really enjoys helping people get healthy and back on their feet! So kudos to him!

This is supposed to be a mental health treatment facility but it is jail (punishment for mentally ill people).
This is a physically/mentally unhealthy and abusive environment. The sad part is that a lot of the employees seem like they were once good people, but they never even remember to communicate important information in a timely manner (they probably just forget to do their jobs most of the time.)

This place needs to be shut down and some folks are gonna have to become inmates for a change. Really bad stuff. Call the cops on em if you have to.

FYI: Lakeside lies about everything, and they even lied in their response to this review. They are not willing to talk to me. I have tried contacting them several times and they do not cooperate.

Here is a miscellaneous list of grievances, in no particular order of importance that will be updated regularly:
- Lakeside's treatment programs discourage/prevent healthy lifestyles, very important for mental health, as most people understand. Sure, the food is bad, but it's probably pretty average as far as prison mess halls go. Unlike prison, though, no time is given for outdoor activity or exercise. Inmates routinely asked to be allowed to spend time outdoors to get some fresh air and exercise, 100% denied. The only time inmates are allowed outside is for cigarette breaks, the area for which is about the size of a patio and caged in on all sides with a caged ceiling.
- On my first day at Lakeside, I was interviewed by a therapist who asked if I regularly saw any medical providers/professionals. I did and provided the contact information. These MPs have a much better understanding of my situation and could have prescribed a reasonable solution, but it wasn't until about a week and a half later that I learned that nobody at Lakeside ever bothered to contact my regular physician's office.
- I was unable to brush my teeth for at least two days because every time I asked for a toothbrush or toothpaste, I was either told that I wouldn't be allowed to ask for toothpaste or anything else until after the next shift change, or that they were out of toothpaste. This is all very stupid but also, why would anybody ever be out of toothpaste? This place doesn't seem to be actually be managed by anybody in any way. I would be impressed if this wasn't all so disturbing.

Took my son Thursday morning around 2 am. I was finally done after 7am. I was told after 9am I will hear from then Dr about a plan of care for my son. Me and my husband called Thursday at noon asking to speak to the Dr about the plan of care. Called all day Friday asking to speak to the Dr. And then today on Monday I talked to the therapist and told her I still have not spoken with the Dr. and no one can give me a plan of care. And working in health care I do understand how busy it can be as well does my husbandand mother (family full of nurses). But it is NEVER too busy to talk to to the family especially about a plan of care with a MINOR!

So if you are coming here voluntarily don’t expect a hotel stay, what I will say is mentally prepare yourself for the journey ahead. This place isn’t perfect by any stretch and there are a few things I could complain about, but that’s like everywhere.

Unfortunately I had to spend a good number of hours in the narc after my assessment. This was a really difficult time when you’re not allowed nicotine and you have the golden girls on the TV with 3 straight hours. I wouldn’t have minded it so much if you could hear it.
When I got to the West unit it was 1am, I was scared and timid, I didn’t have a pillow so I had to improvise, however my first impressions were that the staff were nice and I was there to get better.
In the morning I met the other patients and they made me feel so welcome it was unreal. Unfortunately I wasn’t told the rules of the unit and I had to pick them up as they came up. However I did get in to the swing of things.
I was told that this stay was a vacation for the mind and I firmly believe that you get out what you want to get out of a place like this. I made some amazing friends here, for the most part the staff were caring albeit very overworked. (The were a couple who were just plain rude but being over worked can do this).
The group sessions really helped a lot, I just wish we had more time for smoke breaks. The recreational therapy sessions were really fun and I looked forward to them, kinda wish there was more of them.
The food was okay, not restaurant quality but if you’re cooking in bulk it’s hard to be creative. The only gripe I really have is the eggs we had for breakfast everyday, I was sick of eggs by the end of it.
If you’re gay or transgender, expect to be put in a room on your own. I didn’t mind it so much but it did get really lonely. If you can get yourself transferred to the landing. I spent my entire 9 day stay in the west unit and it was a little too regimented for my liking. However I was glad for the care I got. Lakeside did save my life, and as much as I never want to go back there, who knows what the future will bring, but at least I know I will be in good hands.
To the bosses of Lakeside itself, invest some money in training and extra staff. During the busy periods some of the techs get extremely flustered and it’s not fair on them.
All in all thank you Lakeside for looking after me.

This place is awful!
Ms.Janice/Joyce the supervisor that’s supposed to be over the units are very low class when it comes to her job. She doesn’t know how to handle things, she’s very unethical!
Please don’t send your love ones her!
She needs to be fired immediately! And the staff is abusing the patients! This place needs to be investigated! I’m going to do my best to get the bars seeds out!
Y’all better be careful how you treat people!
What goes around comes around!

My niece has been a patient here since last year and the care she has received from Dr. Struble and the staff at Lakeside has been dreadful. Dr. Struble refuses to talk to parents regarding their child’s treatment plan. He discharged my niece from residential where she was attacked by a staff member within a week she had to be readmitted to acute. I requested a new doctor and therapist for her since her current treatment team failed to make any progress and only wanted to wash their hands with her. Dr. Struble refused to be replaced. My niece hit her head last week and no one notified me or her father. We were not informed until my niece called me for her phone call that evening. All staff did was check her vitals. My niece did not meet her new doctor Dr. Rack til last Thursday. Friday Dr. Rack changed her medicine and within 24 hour doubled her dose without informing us why. Dr. Rack then listed my niece for discharge without communicating with us. My niece was readmitted this last time on April 16, 2024. After dealing with Lakeside for nearly a year this was the first time she has seen a trauma therapist. Dr. Rack claimed my niece would be discharged because she was stable, yet last Wednesday Lakeside refused to take her to her dentist appointment in fear that she would run away. I had to ask Dr. Rack what was the plan after discharge. She informed me PHP, but called yesterday and said Lakeside PHP did not want to take her back because she was too much of a problem. If my niece didn’t need help she wouldn’t have been admitted at Lakeside. She went on to accuse me and my brother as using PHP as a babysitting service, when my niece has suffered from severe trauma and abuse. I have never felt so disrespected in my life. My niece desperately needs help and Lakeside is refusing to provide her with the care she needs. My niece was discharged yesterday with no plan. Lakeside wants us to send an unstable child back to regular school with hundreds of children but claim PHP is unfit for her. Lakeside said she needs residential but are now washing their hands with her.

When he was apprehended he threaten a cop with a knife and resisted he is now incarcerated on the charges. I hold lakeside responsible for my daughter and myself being out in this situation my child could have been seriously hurt due to the incompetence and negligence of lakeside my vehicles were damaged as well. Since when do u send a suicidal person home with ur security guard dropping them off at a house when u have not even spoke to the homeowner to make sure it was ok. Yes I will be contacting anyone and everyone including a lawyer. So Mrs CEO needs to contact me immediately don't comment back sorry for the experience that is not enough when it comes to my child.

I been struggling with not really being able to find a therapist and after calling the crisis hotline they suggested I try calling lakeside. Having to turn in all of my stuff before even seeing anyone was worrying but understandable. But waiting for three hours just to be given a one choice ultimatum and told to leave, was crazy. The person I that I thought was a nurse because of how rude and uncaring he was twords me, turns out that was the doctor, finally came back after I asked what the time was immediately came and practically forced me to sign or get nothing. He seemed all most mad at me for saying anything, and I really think he ether forgot about me or did it on purpose. I don't think Im going to follow through with what he "prescribed" 6 hours every day for weeks is just too much. I would not even be able to do my medical appointment with that.
I really feel like he doesn't care and I was too stressed to think about it then, but I pretty sure he pushed me to sign so he could charge me rather I go through with it or not. There are good people here but they are not in intake.
