My husband ended up having to break up multiple fights between other patients, pick up a patient off the floor and give them a wheelchair, and talk down his severally schizophrenic roommate. Mental health patients were mixed in with substance abuse patients, causing fights. He spoke with a doctor once, the same morning he was discharged. He was sent to be discharged not even 24 hours after he arrived. The facility did not offer scrubs or clothes for patients so my husband, who left directly from the hospital, only had a pair of sweatpants and one shirt. He was prescribed a brand new medication without even speaking to a doctor, which he was then told to stop taking by an LPN. There was blood on the ceiling tiles. No therapy was ever done, the only medication that he left with was one that was prescribed by the hospital before he went here. I have no idea how this place is still funded.

After a two hour drive in a Sheriff’s car, my daughter waited 8 1⁄2 hours, sitting in a waiting room with 30 other patients during which time a fight broke out and police were called. Not a great situation for anybody, especially an individual struggling with mental health. She was then evaluated by a psychiatrist who could determine if she truly needed to be admitted. Seriously, at 8:30pm, was there even a chance she wouldn’t have been admitted!!
The next day after driving 2 hours, I met with Traca, a supervisor, who relayed that my daughter would be well taken care of. She stated that Holly Hill’s job was to get my daughter on the right medications and send her into her community with resources. None of that happened. They sent her out on different, lower dose medication than she was currently on. They furnished her with a page of resources, none of which fit her needs. I was told a variety of different therapies were offered each day. Not true. Patients were locked out of their rooms, sitting in a big area to have discussions with nursing staff, not therapists. My daughter met with her therapist once, four days after being admitted, the day before she was released. My daughter was able to call us most of the time, which was nice. We would have been only allowed one, one hour visit, which just so happened yo be after she was released. Messages left by me for staff were rarely, if ever returned. I understand staff is working, but feel messages should be returned within 24 hours, which did not happen.
When she was released the staff could not find her personal belongings that she came in with (phone, wedding rings and clothes). We were directed to call the patient advocate on Monday, as he doesn't work weekends. The patient advocate found it first thing Monday morning, in the store room, exactly where it should have been. However, now it was another 2 hour drive back to Holly Hill to pick it up. I was told they could mail it, but how could I trust that when nothing else I was told actually happened. My daughter was admitted on a Tuesday evening and released on Saturday. In 4 ½ days, I feel this facility did more damage than good. She had nightmares the first nights after release. This facility was merely a holding tank out to collect insurance money. I would give it zero stars if I could.

I have been to Holly Hill twice at 12 years old I am now 28. I will never be able to forget my time there. I have PTSD from this place. The staff were atrocious. Tackling kids for little to no reason. Group therapy in the day room was held by the nurses, where we once all sat in a circle being convinced that our mental illness, abuse from home, and poor coping skills were all our own faults and explained how our behavior was not normal. I saw the psychiatrist one time for twenty mins per stay...

I saw the psychiatrist one time for twenty mins per stay. Was then "diagnosed" with bipolar disorder (which isn't my actual diagnosis) given lithium which made me a zombie and led to permanent trimmers. I'm honestly surprised this place is still open. I've known kids of recent that go there and that it hasn't changed. If you love your kids don't send them here.

This experience could have been much better. It was constantly loud, with the TV blaring, making it difficult to hear when talking with family on the phone. Staff did not intervene when verbal confrontations between patients started leading to physical fights. I have never seen this level of fighting any time I have been hospitalized. Aalita was an exception as she was engaging with the patients and so kind. It would be nice to have more activities for patients to do, including a better selection of books, games, etc…. I was not impressed with Dr Wang, he did not seem to individualize my care and put me on a medicine for alcohol dependence when my alcohol level was undetectable when I came into the ED. Lots of room for improvement.

This Hospital is probably one of the most worst hospital ever! and I say that with all honesty. I was in the children section and honestly, everything was a mess.
This review is going to let y'all know why not to get treated there.

This Hospital is probably one of the most worst hospital ever! and I say that with all honesty. I was in the children section and honestly, everything was a mess.
This review is going to let y'all know why not to get treated there.
1. The staff can't do nothing right and they don't care about patients treatments or anything and I can vouched for that. The staff will talk about the patients and be rude and my only concern is, why will GROWN ADULTS argue with kids, that are there to get treated due to mental reason? It's just unacceptable honestly.
2. The staff will literally talk bad about other staff. While I was there, there was a staff who was from Nigeria and he had a semi strong accent and he was a tech at the hospital, and every time he would try to talk and ask another staff a question, the staff would get mad and just talk to him any kind of way and then when he would leave the room, the other staff would talk about him and how he needs to be switched over to another unit. In this work place I think staff should a least be respectful to other staff that are working there, to guaranteed the success of the treatment for the kids.
3. The staff have no control over the unit. I was in the girl's unit and over there, the staff would honestly have no control over it. We would be late to breakfast, lunch, and dinner all because staff couldn't get their things under control.
4. The food there is good, so that is about the only thing that I can really say is good about the place. The food is a solid 7/10.
5. The kids are not treated like humans. Despite the girls being there and the kids getting treatment for mental issues, the staff treats us like hamsters or rats, that can talk or read and sometime they will even mistreat us, because they know that if we tell others, that they are not going to believe us, because of our mental problems.
I have more problems and concerns, but I all I can really say is, if that is a hospital that parents send their child too, or if you volunteer or if you got involunteered (like I did), then your just absolutely going to lose your mind. We had to do paper's in the morning and afternoon about if we liked it there and if the staff and everyone is nice and honestly I hated saying yes to though's questions, but at the same time I also wanted to leave, so I just said to myself I was going to make a review about how my time there was when I got out.
Guys don't come to this hospital, it's not what you want and if you can help, it try to get out fast. I felt more unprotected there then my reason for going there. This HOSPITAL DOE'S NOT HELP YOU!.
Im only giving this hospital a 1 as a review due to the food being good, but that is all.
Holly Hill, do better!

I've been to several different facilities and this is by far the worst. The food is good and the people are nice but they lock you out of the room at 5:00 a.m., and you're not allowed to return until 5:00 p.m.; unless you have a doctor's note. The furniture is uncomfortable, and you're stuck sitting in the Common room all day. Other patients to yell and scream but I suppose I can have it anywhere.

A week ago I got discharged I never ever want to go back to this hospital. All the techs were super nice and im thankful for what they did for me and the deep conversations I had with them. They would lie to my own mother knowing that she has a heart condition and she worries about me. The girls were the sweetest girls ever I miss them all and I hope they get better but I will never forget the paper that I saw what each staff did to the girls it's honestly disturbing and the staff would just lie and cover it up saying that's not true when it was. This hospital still makes me feel sick to my stomach because of how I was treated by the nurses and therapists.

ZERO STARS. The place needs to shut down. I’m deciding to speak up because nobody should experience this treatment. I stayed there from February 22, 2023 - February 27th, 2023 and I will say this has been the worst experience of my life. As a trauma victim, this experience triggered me completely and following my dismissal from this hospital, I had severely regressed. I was admitted and they misdiagnosed me. I was sent to the wrong unit, when it was finally reviewed, on a Friday, the therapist there (I believe) that I spoke with told me I was in the wrong unit.
I was here for eating issues. They toss out the food when lunch is over, and visiting hours were during dinner. I asked if I could take it with me, they said no. I asked if my food could be left for me when I get back, they basically said they couldn’t guarantee it’d be here for me when I came back. I begged them to let them keep is somewhere safe so I could eat. I had to advocate for myself to get them to keep the food because they weren’t listening to me. They were not trying to keep it. The behavioral specialist threatened me by telling a mental health tech to not allow me to see my family when visiting, because I had to fight for my right to get to keep my food. He said “why are you even allowing this behavior, don’t even let her go”. This is UNACCEPTABLE. This is only a few of the many things I experienced. Upon arrival, there was trash everywhere in the lobby, under seats, in chairs, besides chairs. When I came upstairs to my unit, it was quite literally like a ghost town. Crumbs everywhere, everyone in their rooms which was very weird because in my unit, you’re not even supposed to be in your rooms. They lock the doors until shower time. They don’t clean the rooms before the next patient arrives. There was hair, toothpaste in the shower, a dirty toilet, I even found a bug on the bed I was sleeping in.
These “mental health technicians” yell at you for voicing your concerns and asking to be treated like an adult. They literally treated us like we were their own kids, poorly. They treated us with zero ounce of respect. They could not communicate with us at all. They don’t even act this way at daycares. None of these “techs” were properly trained to treat any mental health patients.
During group, they gave us sheets about “overthinking” and “thoughts”, while I was in the unit with people who had schizophrenia. The mental health technicians didn’t provide a solution to my issues and the reason why I was committed there. It’s like they’re there to facilitate. Not actually help. The only people who helped me were the nutritionist and the PA’s or the nurses that I saw instead of the doctor. Most of them didn’t work diligently and authentically to give me solutions to my problems. They didn’t truly help me. I was there for eating. And they completely disregarded me until the last minute, until I pleaded relentlessly for them to listen to my concerns, because I had to advocate for myself. Imagine the people who don’t have the voice to do that. Imagine the people who cannot fight for themselves to be treated like a human, in a facility where they’re supposed to be catering to our needs, consulting with us, working with us to help us get back on our feet and onto the path of wellness. They couldn’t do that for me.
In addition to that. One of the “mental health techs” was flirting with one of the patients. She her body language made me assume she was completely doped up on medication. I may be wrong but regardless, these mental health technicians should not be flirting with patients, that’s unprofessional and genuinely wrong. There is an imbalance amongst patient and staff around them, especially when you’re committed against your will.
Out of everything there were very few people willing to help, and I’m thankful for the people who did. They were the reason I got to eat at the times I did. They were the people who heard me. And they were the people who advocated for me, including making sure I had the right food.
