Cottonwood is one of the best treatment programs in the country for adults that are struggling with trauma and/or substance use. They have renowned providers and are great at effectively coordinating care with families. I would strongly recommend reaching out if you or a loved one are struggling.

They will literally rob you. This is a true story. I was cash prepaid for 30 days, and they didn’t believe my use history until I did a drug test. Weird, but okay.
After 3-4 days of no sleep, puking and other fun detox activities, I began hallucinating. I vaguely remember being surrounded by staff members asking me “what drug I ingested.” Which having flown there and being searched, the answer was nothing. Just awful detox management.
Never saw an individual therapist.

As far as community goes, one other guy was there with me. He AMA’d or was asked to leave, so I’m not sure what the story is there.
Next memory is waking up at Tucson Northwestern out of a coma. That’s right, I went into a coma. Cottonwood kicked me out while I was in the hospital. And to date, they’ve yet to refund my tuition despite months of calls.
DO NOT SEND A LOVED ONE HERE.
And I can guarantee you they won’t respond to this review. All I’ve received so far is “we can’t find your files.”

Cottonwood impresses with its seamless coordination of care with external providers and outstanding support to the community. As a therapist referring individuals to a higher level of care, Cottonwood exhibits a commendable ability to provide crucial support for those in need.

I can say I truly benefitted from Cottonwood. My therapist recommended I look into inpatient care and Cottonwood, for me, seemed like the right place for my healing journey. I can say I truly benefitted from Cottonwood. My therapist recommended I look into inpatient care and Cottonwood, for me, seemed like the right place for my healing journey. I struggle with mental health (CPTSD) and being in an environment that focused on healing allowed me to feel vulnerable. Now that can be good or bad for some people, because so many raw emotions come to the surface and triggers can/will come up. It’s part of the healing journey, you can either let things consume you or you can use them as opportunities to build your resiliency, and let go of that trauma that is coming to the surface. I was able to let go of a lot and being in an environment where I felt safe was very important. I had triggers, I had things come up, I let the emotions out, I released a lot of the hold these feelings had on me. I refused to let my trauma take control of my life, and Cottonwood helped me get my life back on the right path. I’ve grown tremendously since coming here. It’s too bad these kind of facilities aren’t more well known because I feel everyone’s mental health can benefit from a place like Cottonwood. My only advice is to make sure you advocate for yourself. It’s easy to hide in the back and get lost amongst your peers. I had to find my voice and speak up for myself which was a huge growth experience for me. Thanks for everything guys.

Before Cottonwood, it was years (5+ years) since I was able to make friends, belly laugh, or even believe in myself. Before Cottonwood, it was years (5+ years) since I was able to make friends, belly laugh, or even believe in myself. I was very good at masking my own chaos by covering it up with the chaos of others. I didn’t know how to advocate for myself and was diagnosed & taught how to start conquering my Complex PTSD and Anxiety Disorder upon walking onto the Cottonwood campus which stemmed from my childhood all the way into my professional work life. Cottonwood was the greatest gift I’ve ever given myself because after my short 30 day stay, I now have life long friends, the ability to be happy, and most importantly the ability to belly laugh which I desperately craved. To me, that’s priceless and powerful. Cottonwood has mastered the ability to help those who struggle & battle from either (or both) primary mental health & substance abuse. While on campus, you’d never be able to tell who is there for primary mental health or from substance abuse because the behavior for both is extremely similar, if not the exact same.
Special thank you to James Morse (Primary Therapist) for being my rock and bringing me light, Tom (Peer Advisor), Brian aka BD (Clinician), Jamie (Tech), Aaron (Tech & Mens sober house manager), and Ethan (Tech and Barn Assistant for Equine Therapy), and Summit Behavioral Health Center giving me this opportunity I was not able to get on my own.
I love you all and thank you for helping me find my badass self that was lost for a very long time.
Everyone, literally everyone, can benefit from experiencing the Cottonwood treatment model(s) no matter where you are at in your current life.
I love you, Cottonwood & thanks for helping me find myself and my smile!
Best,
Mike Flannery

It's been 26 years since I've been to Cottonwood. I was in the adolescent unit in 1996 when I was 15 years old. And I still cherish the time I had there. I was young, and did not stay clean when I left, but when I did finally get clean in 2014, I used a lot of the tools I was given by the amazing staff at Cottonwood to help me through the process. I recently contacted Cottonwood and although I haven't been there in almost three decades, I felt like I was there yesterday by the way I was welcomed by the staff, most of whom were not there in '96. I have been in contact with Tonya F. and I couldn't be happier with how she helped me get some answers to some questions I've been carrying around for so many years. She has even convinced me to make it to Arizona in the spring for a reunion. I hope to see you then Tonya. Thanks for all that you guys do. So many lives have been changed for the better because of Cottonwood. And I am proud to consider myself an alumni.

Everyone had there own experience at Cottonwood. But mine was great, I was there for 90 days and the best part was the staff. They felt like family. In my experience they went over the top to get your needs met. Susan Garrett specifically helped me unconditionally whenever I needed something resolved and i am forever greatful for her. Tonya The Alumni coordinator has been nothing but supportive since the day I met her. Randy, my therapist, with his knowledge and perspective on addiction, he played a major role to my attitude towards alcohol use and why I feel a separation of the old me and who I am today. I encourage anyone who is considering treatment whether it is mental health or substance use disorder to go to Cottonwood.
