I would not recommend Brattleboro retreat. I stayed in the unit for teenagers (T3 I think) in 2021. The majority of the staff there were very cruel and did not show any empathy what so ever. My doctor even tried to turn my family against me. The place was not in good physical condition and is totally different on the inside. Very unclean. Not to mention overall creepy. I remember this one staff member, Alice who was actually super nice. Overall, do not recommend staying there or sending famil...

I (age 16) didn’t feel herd, i felt like they just wanted me gone, and I felt so unwanted and I ended up relapsing right after getting out. I witnessed kids get pinned down and sedated, instead of talking to them, and group therapy would often turn into group arguing. Another group all the staff did was read a paper of instructions, not even doing the project, or how this would help. My provider also wasnt the best, often not listening to what i had to say.

DO NOT BRING YOURSELF OR YOUR LOVED ONES HERE THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS!!!!!!!!! I have been admitted there 2 times and was supposed to a 3rd time but I will get on that later. My first stay was 3 weeks and the whole time I was pumped full of meds and was a living zombie. The staff would constantly slam doors and yell at the teens for simply asking to have their rooms unlocked. Yes.. you need to ask to be in your safe space and the staff tends to deny entry. There was many times where I asked f...

Overdosed on medication by a blind doctor. Fed food I would never as an athlete eat, with no choice. Nor was I being listened to about dietary guidelines and preferences. Have been an athlete my whole life. Restricted physical activity. Mixed with not awesome food, and overdose of medication, I gained so much weight. Same with another girl who came in as a small girl and left the size I was (a whopping 218 after leaving, (160 when I went in) Admitted again after extreme trauma and not offered...

Unprofessional and toxic staff! Literally name calling and criticism to other staff members on floor in front of patients and staff! Don't need any type of certification to be one of the mental health assistants, and it shows. If you get beat up by a pt, other assistants just stand and watch so they don't get hurt. Most of the staff are travelers. This place has a dark cloud hanging over it. There is a reason why they have been urgently hiring for the past several months...

The Brattleboro Retreat saved my life. It is a true treasure, especially for a mental health hospital. The bad reviews make me sad, because I think this place is misrepresented. I’ve been to bad mental health hospitals, and this is not one of them. We got to do art, music, and have outside time. It is such a beautiful setting right on lake with beautiful views. It was built in the 1800s as a mental health hospital, and I was told they intentionally built it at this location with all these hug...

I was sent here from St.johnsbury Vt, hospital because I came to them suicidal. They took me even after the admin had left for the day. I was put in I believe the Tyler 2 ward. Although this particular ward had not been updated, it was still clean. The staff was exceptional. The group therapy was amazing. They always took the time to talk to everyone. We even had a music class with one of the employees that was great. It brought a lot of people out of there rooms . I was they for I believe 1...

It was like staying in an old haunted insane asylum on the inside. The staff was okay but the rooms need a remodel. Not an ideal place for depressed, paranoid etc. mental health patients to be staying with those Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban bars on the windows, casting a looming shadow on the whitewashed, booger plastered walls as the sun goes down. Groups were a little over the top cliche and pointless… but a lot of the staff meant well.
