My daughter is alive today because of Avalon Hills. My daughter was just over 16 when she arrived at Avalon Hills. It was clear that after 3 years of battling Anorexia, with little improvement at a local hospital in Ontario Canada, my daughter needed more intense therapy and care. It took a total of 6 years and 2 stays at Avalon but my daughter is alive and well today! She is now 25 and has 2 beautiful children. I am so incredibly grateful to Avalon for everything they did. I have a 17-year-old daughter who recovered at Avalon Hills. It was without a doubt the best thing that has happened in our lives the past several years. Like many others who suffer with ED, she was in and out of hospitals and residential treatment centers a few times before arriving at Avalon Hills. If you are considering residential treatment at a facility that tells you they have a program that lasts X number of days, please don’t go there. After a three month stay at one of those places, ...

After a three month stay at one of those places, my daughter came home, weight restored thank God, but her recovery was very short lived because her thought processes were the same as when she went in. The ED monster crept back in with a vengeance and within a month she was back where she started. We were blessed to find a bed at Avalon Hills. The process of being admitted there went seamlessly and DeeDee, the admissions director, was amazing. Most insurance companies set a limit as to how long they will cover residential care, the children come home too soon, and the cycle starts over again. Avalon Hills worked constantly with my insurance provider, which was an uphill battle, but they were able to persuade Blue Cross to provide long-term coverage for my daughter.
After several months, my daughter came home from Utah, but only when she was truly ready and prepared to live a better life. Not only was her weight restored, but more importantly, her soul was restored. Her therapist, Mike Hinds, was able to help her dig deep into her past and uncover the roots of her problem, face them head on and pave the road to recovery. Other facilities she had been in focused only on teaching coping “skills” through CBT and DBT therapies. Those types of therapies did not help my daughter heal; they were just Band-Aids on a serious wound.
I am forever grateful to the entire staff at Avalon Hills, most everything about her experience there was excellent. But, I am especially grateful for her therapist Mike, I truly believe he saved my daughter’s life. She has been home for almost a year now and it has been the best year we have had in many years. Times flies when you’re having fun, and I can’t believe it has taken me this long to write this review. The most amazing thing I can say about her experience in Utah is that when she came home, she honestly missed being there, missed the staff, missed her horse Max, missed the kitties, but most of all, missed her new friends. Anorexia is a war she will have to fight for the rest of her life, some days are really hard, but Avalon Hills prepared her for the battles.

I discharged from Avalon just over 2 months ago and I can't thank them enough. Everyone's experience there is different and I have known people who didn't like Avalon's form of treatment, but personally it was a really pleasant experience. The staff were all amazing and made it feel like we were more connected to the world, and just spending genuine time around other clients and having support from people who know what you're going through is a great environment. The staff were all amazing and made it feel like we were more connected to the world, and just spending genuine time around other clients and having support from people who know what you're going through is a great environment. What Avalon did for me was just what I needed to weight restore and become mentally and physically healthy again, and it definitely wasn't always easy, but through therapy and a lot of self work, it completely changed my life. I couldn't be happier and honestly miss all the other clients and staff there now. For me, this place was perfect and just what I needed to be happy again.

My daughter was in desperate need of help. From the start, Avalon Hills helped us with getting the insurance company to pay for treatment, which was time consuming and not easy. My daughter grew by leaps and bounds and is now in a healthy place. The staff was very supportive and I love how the program is tailored to each individual and their needs. I highly recommend this program.

I am so incredibly thankful for this establishment. I live in Canada, but I was able to travel to Avalon Hills in Utah to receive treatment, as I required intense in-patient programming. This place saved my life when I was at my lowest. I will forever promote and recommend Avalon Hills to Youth and Adults struggling with eating disorders.

Avalon Hills provided my daughter and my family with the caring, support and guidance we needed to navigate not only my daughters illness but all of emotions and insurance obstacles it placed in our path. We are blessed to have Benita and her amazing staff in our lives.

Please never send your daughter here. It has been 5 years since I was sent here as an adolescent and I have lasting trauma (!) from this place. I am in recovery through absolutely no help of the 13 months I spent here. I am a kind and gracious person but was told throughout my whole stay that I was manipulative and ungrateful. They will lie to, disrespect, and humiliate your daughter over and over again. While completely restricting what your daughter can say to you or anyone. This is the most awful place I've ever been and I beg you not to send anyone you love here. I know that it can seem endless and Avalon claims to be there for that but they will not help you. The only people I know who got better as a result of Avalon were solely motivated by the fear of being forced back into this kind of treatment (that won't work for most people).

As a physician, this center is certainly one of the best in the country as I refer many patients there and have become familiar with the staff. They are also neuro-biologically based which I feel is very important and practice a treat to outcome philosophy which is the correct approach. I also find this center to have one of the lowest rates of relapse requiring readmission to residential centers. I also find this center to have one of the lowest rates of relapse requiring readmission to residential centers. Treating an ED is very difficult and a painful experience to both the patient and the family so many find residential facilities too hard to persist through. Avalon can't make recovery enjoyable, but I feel they are very good at helping make it tolerable.
