I am forever grateful to this magical place. I was terrified to go to a “rehab” but the intake staff made me feel more secure in my decision and I’m so glad I walked through those doors. The support from the other women in treatment has truly filled up my heart. All the counselors here are so selfless, caring, and insightful I couldn’t have asked for better support. This experience has truly changed my life and I pray that any woman who has struggled with addiction will find this place!

I went to Awakenings with very little hope and left with the motivation I needed to really change my life. I was given the support I desperately needed while building life long friendships. The fact that it was all women really helped me focus on the things I had been neglecting for so long. Daily walks on the beach were also very beneficial to my recovery. The counselors and staff were a huge factor in helping me realize that a life of sobriety was the only path for me. Since Awakenings, I h...

This was the first and only inpatient rehab I have ever attended. I enjoyed being here a lot, the clients and staff were more like a family than a facility because they were so supportive and caring and kind. My counselor was so helpful and the system in which they run the groups was awesome. I learned a lot about myself here and was able to connect with my old self before opiates had ever entered my system.Thank you so much to Awakenings by the Sea and the staff which runs in. I cannot say enough positive things about this place. Awakenings by the Sea saved my sister's life. The work they do there, the care they give to their patients and the message they set forth is a true blessing. Not only did they gave me my sister back, but they helped her build a solid foundation of recovery which she remains standing on today. I will forever be eternally grateful to them and everyone affiliated with them.

We sent our niece to Awakenings, and while her experience wasn't all terrible, the services she received weren't even close to as advertised on the website. Other one-star reviews highlight the financial issues as well, and I could say more on this, but if you read any of the reviews that are remotely critical, you will see that EVERY SINGLE ONE receives the facility's canned response, that you are stating 'factual inaccuracies', so it's obvious that the management or ownership has no intenti...

We sent our niece to Awakenings, and while her experience wasn't all terrible, the services she received weren't even close to as advertised on the website. Other one-star reviews highlight the financial issues as well, and I could say more on this, but if you read any of the reviews that are remotely critical, you will see that EVERY SINGLE ONE receives the facility's canned response, that you are stating 'factual inaccuracies', so it's obvious that the management or ownership has no intention to use the feedback constructively or take accountability for their shortcomings.
One thing I will say is this: If you do send your female loved one here and intend to explore follow-up care after residential, be very careful where Awakenings refers her. Our niece had a friend who did very, very well and has been sober for nearly a year after attending an outpatient program in Portland. She spoke highly of it, and her success has been a big reason that our niece made the decision to try treatment at all.
When it came time to go, Tabitha told her that they didn't send anyone there anymore, and then she made disparaging remarks about the treatment center and its sober housing, in ways that seemed quite unprofessional. Instead, they totally pushed another outpatient program in Portland, and accepting that recommendation was the biggest mistake our family ever made. For us, it was the start of a 3-month nightmare.
Our niece left Awakenings 30 days sober and full of hope about recovery. The facility referred so enthusiastically by Tabitha (ironically called SLO) was drab, run-down, crowded, and she was crammed into a packed sober house of women who were more interested in sleeping around with the males there than working on their recovery.
While she was there, three of the girls who also went there from Awakenings relapsed almost immediately. It was an open secret that there was no accountability for missed treatment activities or drug testing, and there were few rules or roadblocks to provide newly-sober clients with what I would call appropriate guidance. The philosophy of the clinical director - who supposedly used the powerful drug ketamine and touted it for the females, when he was alone with them - was that the people who came there seeking help needed to make their own decisions, even when they had proven unable to do so for years and years at a time.
Unfortunately, most of the people who came through there during those three months relapsed repeatedly, and the sober houses were filled with both men and women using all types of substances, including hallucinogenic drugs, inhalants, and things that weren't as easily detectable on drug tests. There were a number of girls who had sex with the males at the treatment center that didn't feel entirely consensual, and after one such episode, during which our niece said her beverage was spiked, she also relapsed and experienced additional trauma as result.
Why Tabitha and Awakenings would so strongly recommend such a place - but discourage the center we had initially chosen - I don't know. I can only assume there is some kickback or type of financial remuneration involved, because nothing about this SLO place was therapeutic or safe for women. We removed our niece from this dangerous outfit, got her some detox services, and are waiting on her release date to start over again somewhere more appropriate.
On a side note: We toured the facility that was our original choice, the one that had helped our niece's friend stay sober, and looked at the housing. Both houses were neat, clean, and beautifully decorated, and the treatment center was very nice. The staff and other women there were extremely welcoming and we are starting there next week.

My 2 months at Awakenings has been life changing. The staff was so accommodating and individualized my treatment plan. I felt safe, supported and valued since the moment I arrived. The women support each other and provide a safe place to deal with trauma, shame and learning to be transparent. I have a completely knew outlook on life, myself and have reconnected with my higher power after 11+ years of disconnect.
