He encouraged my loved one to seek help and provided a path forward for me deal with the situation. Thank you Thomas! You made me go from feeling helpless, to informed and with suggested actions. My loved one has now entered a recovery program. A heartfelt thank you Tom!

First, I want to offer my sincere thanks to Apex Recovery for saving my life. The staff truly cares about their patients and clients.
I can agree with one of the more recent reviews:

From an executive standpoint keep in mind that this is a private entity beholden to the board and the bottom line of making a profit, as many centers are. Sometimes the client's best interests go unnoticed... Mid management, however, sometimes seems a bit disconnected from the end goal of recovery and what it takes to get there."
My experience at Apex was overall quite positive. This is a for profit business. Occasionally, there are situations that could be managed better. However, the boots on the ground staff are incredibly caring and helpful. Some of the best in my opinion are Ron, Antionette, Stan, Nikki, Daniel, Johnny (the Head Chef - A+ INCREDIBLE), Brandon (contracted therapist), Dana, Sylvana and my therapist, Rachel.
Rachel went above and beyond the call of duty for me more than once. She is responsive and understanding. Her reflections and insights were spot on for me.
Rachel, I am grateful.
Ron is my man. He and I bonded and truly connected. I'm grateful for his inspirational leadership, the workouts, and the connection. He is a huge asset to Apex.
After completing my time at Apex I have followed up with IOP in my home town and in comparison, the level and depth of work being done at Apex is a step above. Honestly, I wish that I was still in the Apex IOP program.
I was blessed to have motivated and involved house mates. We did a ton of work in group and outside of groups on our own. The community I found at Apex has been a huge part of my recovery. The folks I mentioned truly care about me and my recovery. The intention and effort are there. Typically, our groups therapy sessions were fruitful. People got real. We shared our struggles and issues without judgement and listened with compassion.
The clientele comes from all walks of life. There are a good mix of executive types as well as folks in other phases of life. The age of clients represented in my stay ranged their early 20's to clients in their 60's. This allowed me to feel comfortable in relation to the challenges that recovery poses across the board.
At the time I was there, there were three houses with a max of 6 patients per house. I found the houses clean and comfortable.
The pool in the Angel Point house was under construction but swimming is not the reason I visited Apex anyway - Not a big deal. It should be completed shortly and it's going to be absolutely stunning and incredible.
Again, I will mention that the food is amazing and well portioned. Johnny, John and Jorge did a magnificent job of feeding us healthy food with loads of variety. Those guys did a great job of accommodating the tastes and dietary needs for everyone in the houses. Expect to gain a few pounds while eating healthy meals that are super tasty.
Apex seemed to be experiencing some staff turnover during my time. A little grace is necessary with regards to some of the issues. I have absolute faith that they are on the right track and it'll be running like a top sooner rather than later.
I can 100% say that Apex Recovery saved my life. If you need help, do NOT hesitate to reach out. I recommend Apex Recovery for a high-end rehab experience.

Uneducated staff, you’ll have interns as therapists. High turnover for staff. Broken amenities. Master manipulators, or attempt to be anyway. Many red flags to attempted insurance fraud (billing for services you don’t receive) high staff turnover, easy to terminate their employees. Master manipulators, or attempt to be anyway. Many red flags to attempted insurance fraud (billing for services you don’t receive) high staff turnover, easy to terminate their employees. Apex in San Diego rents three homes in called Dewitt (residential / detox) Bonnie (residential / detox) & angle (PHP).
Medication distribution: Self dispense. Staff was claiming they were medication administered certified and was checking off medications were given, when they were not. Expect to go about two days without medications to lower critically elevated BP’s ie: 156/109. You will not be given any Ativan or clonidine for about two days. I recommend you go into shoreline recovery or the emergency room for a bag of fluids and medication management to be monitored while detoxing. Especially if you are alcohol dependent.
IV: upon admission you will speak to a nurse named Shelby who is a LPN. I asked for a bag of fluids, and she was claiming to be a prior peds nurse, could possibly try to get approval for IV Hydration. LPN’s aren’t allowed to start an IV as they aren’t educated on how to do so. She claims she owns a 40+ bed facility with her husband, my question is why is she working at apex?
Hospitalization: They will refuse for you to go into the hospital, or dentist and refuse to transport you to the hospital, in Dewitt and angle to my knowledge. When asked why they said they had done this before in the past and that patient came back intoxicated.
Nursing: No on-site nursing staff to do initial assessments. Don’t get it twisted, the on-site staff is not nursing staff. No on-site providers, they do tele health and are located in different parts of the country. No psychiatrist as they can’t afford one. They have a PMHNP Ken in cooperate who does tele health, he is amazing! He isn’t apart of apex however, because again they don’t want to pay their staff accordingly.
Michael Cartwright: He is one of the owners of this apex, google him - he shot an innocent 19 year old women and blamed it on alcohol. He was arrested on attempted murder charges, he will try to manipulate you and make concerning statements.
Matthew Bruhin is not a medical doctor, has a phd in marriage therapy. The only licensed therapist he has works under his license.
Groups: Groups are run by BHT’s, completely disorganized.
HIPPA has been broke on many concerning levels, reportable to the DOH.
Diabetics: No food available
Pro’s: food is decent, mostly is cold. Friendly chefs. Nice views from the homes.
Cons: broken amenities, don’t let them fool you that the pool is warm and the hot tub is working. All false advertisement. Unprofessional staff who doesn’t care, especially upper management. Homes are outdated and dirty. They have one house keeper to all the homes because they can’t afford to pay staff.

Apex treatment center was very helpful in getting me detoxed and understanding my recovery needs from alcohol. The food was really great and my favorite parts were the groups. I really enjoyed Roberts recovery jeopardy and Brandon's rock to recovery just to name a few. I really enjoyed getting to know Robert my case manager. Nikki the BHT. Rachel my Therapist. and the Chef johnny was an absolute beast in the kitchen.

This was a good place for recovery. Although there are some issues at the executive level this place is run very well and set up well to aid in one's recovery process. From an executive standpoint keep in mind that this is a private entity beholden to the board and the bottom line of making a profit, as many centers are. Sometimes the clients best interests go unnoticed. Dr. Bruin is a great leader however. He is very knowledgable and has a background that ensures he can relate to the things the clients are going through. He is available for 1:1 assistance when needed and offers great insight in sessions that he's able to join when he is in town. Other executives however seem a bit disconnected from the end goal of recovery and what it takes to get there.
The Apex website is also quite misleading. This is a great place related to other rehab facilities but it is by no means 'luxury' as they advertise. The carpets in most of the houses are filthy. There are three separate houses and only one has a pool, which is often too dirty to swim in or not working/available. The times it is however offer a great pool experience.
In terms of content and day to day: The days are packed with great content and the staff, for the most part, is very knowledgable. To name a few of the good ones: Nichole, Stacey, Antionette, Mila, Daniel, Isabella, Melanie (therapist), Irelyn, Holly, Kim, Caryn, Madison, Brandon, and Johnny the Cook (this guy is amazing!). The food is good and well proportioned. There are many opportunities to go to the stores for necessities/toiletries, and things like cigarettes at 7-11.
Note, Isabella and Caryn are also wonderful. They have a substance and recovery background and know the Lord. They offer a listening ear and guidance when prompted.
Specially I wanted to call out Nicole and Mila who went above and beyond to ensure a great experience in a very difficult environment. Nicole is a rare human blessed with the ability to relate, listen, and share valuable advice at the right time. She always had our best interests in mind. As most of them did.
Most of the staff is knowledgeable and relatable. One thing to note is that some of the therapists are not certified or licensed. As far as I understand some are 'interns' and I believe only some have actually had issues with substance and went through recovery. I had one incident that violated my trust but it was handled well through Dr. Bruin and Mila. However, my bond of trust was broken with that said therapist.
Of note however, my therapist was Melanie and she was spectacular. Melanie is licensed as an Associate Marriage & Family therapist in California. She is very relatable, intelligent, and helpful. I saw a lot of value through our individual sessions, family sessions, and group meetings.
Of note I will say that I expected more one on one sessions but the sessions with Melanie where valuable. Big kudos to Melanie. She is wonderful.
I also really appreciated Madison and Brandons sessions. Their ability to feel and relate to the energy in the room is remarkable. I would have enjoyed more sessions with them.
Antonette, Daniel, and Stacy on the late crew were also a delight. Kind souls always willing to lend an ear or advice when needed.

First off, I want to say this program has saved my life but I think more so within the peers around me. I had a great group of other addicts and we all moved along together. The staff in the houses also have had a huge impact on my recovery. Special thanks to Dr B, Robert, the RS’s and the chefs for really hearing my wants and needs.
I’ve never been in a rehab nor have I done inpatient but I found this beautiful place and wanted something on the higher standards. Don’t be fooled by the website, I highly suggest asking for a tour in person. Communication is a huge problem that I saw in my stay here and lack of knowledge in day to day schedules caused a lot of issues for myself. When trying to get a routine down and then sudden changes happen, that can really detour someone from completing the program here. Now, for myself, I chose to stay because I knew I needed to be in an inpatient program, and others, I’m sure have their issues, but apex was the “luxury” center so I didn’t want to see worse. I got to talk to Dr B and I feel he really heard my concerns and I see some changes happening but when talking to Dr C, I didn’t have the same outlook. I feel the “higher ups” as well as the owners of the program could, and should, be more involved and not just when something goes wrong. I’m not sure how you expand when the houses here in CA need help. Staff needs better training and the ratio within houses (client-staff) and peers needs attention. Cleanliness and safety need attention. Room searches and proper cleaning between clients NEEDS to happen. This is our recovery and I highly suggest advocating for yourself! Recovery is done for you, by you, it is not done for others, or by others.

i had a very good experience at apex. the staff were all very chill and understanding, most of them were also in recovery which is cool because i felt like i wasnt alone. the only downside is the lack of planning ahead, but other than that apex is a amazing program and they offer php as well
